Clarence, N.Y.—Greatbatch Medical achieved over one million hours worked without a lost-time accident in the company’s Clarence, NY manufacturing facility on Monday, October 12, 2009.
“We have a very strong commitment to operational excellence, and part of that is to develop safety initiatives that ensure our associates work in a safe environment,” said Mauricio Arellano, senior vice president, cardiac & neurology, Greatbatch Medical.
Over the last five years, using best practice tools and techniques, the facility’s leadership has empowered its associates to achieve this milestone. This included developing a safety committee that meets each month, conducting weekly leadership safety tours and holding safety training topics every month.
“This is an industry benchmark that demonstrates our commitment to safety and the dedication that each associate at our Clarence facility shows everyday,” said William Blarr, manager, environmental health & safety, Greatbatch Medical. “We’re excited to continue this goal and are now challenging associates to complete two million hours worked without lost-time accident.”
Located on Barton Road in Clarence, N.Y., the facility manufactures machined and molded components for medical devices, and is one of company’s three facilities in Western New York.
No lost-time means the facility had no accidents that required associates to take time off from work, or the plant to stop its production lines.
